William Floyd Board of Education President Robert Vecchio is featuring students from the William Floyd High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) program on his Long Island News Radio 103.9 program, “Spotlight on Long Island Schools,” airing this Saturday morning, January 23 at 10:30 am. This week’s program will feature Karen Poidomani, William Floyd High School Business Educator and CTE Chairperson, as well as students enrolled in the CTE program’s Cosmetology and Medical Assisting academies.

In this edition of “Spotlight on Long Island Schools,” Mr. Vecchio interviewed four students – three from Medical Assisting, Ted Oster, Amanda Minessalli and Fiona Nolan, and one from Cosmetology, Cassidy Martin – to learn about their experiences in the CTE program and how it has helped them in their academic careers to gain the skills and experience necessary to consider as a future career path whether through post-secondary education or entrance into the workforce.

Mr. Vecchio and Mrs. Poidomani also discussed the district’s additional CTE offerings, including Automotive Technology, Building Trades & Construction (carpentry), Business and Hospitality Services (culinary arts). “It was amazing listening to the students passionately speak about the amazing programs that they are involved in,” said Mr. Vecchio.

Mr. Vecchio’s inaugural show kicked off this past September with members of William Floyd High School’s powerhouse Youth & Government club and their advisor, Robert Feeney (listen here). Since that debut show, he has interviewed students and staff from various school districts including Sayville, Oyster Bay-East Norwich, South Country, Islip, Patchogue-Medford, Mount Sinai, East Moriches, Middle Country, Eastport-South Manor and Eastern Suffolk BOCES, as well as programs spotlighting some of our local elected officials including Congressman Lee Zeldin (William Floyd graduate Class of 1998), State Senator Tom Croci and Assemblyman Dean Murray. He also has had discussions focused on the college process and addiction.

“Spotlight on Long Island Schools” is recorded at the Slomin’s Studio in the terminal at Long Island MacArthur Airport and is sponsored by Suffolk Speech and Myofunctional Therapy. “Spotlight on Long Island Schools” can also be live streamed at www.linewsradio.com.
