William Floyd Elementary School recently held their second annual Reading Fair organized by fifth-grade teacher Alba Salazar, which was attended by more than 150 students and approximately 300 family members. Students created presentations to promote their favorite books and displayed them on boards for all to see. Additionally, students and teachers dressed up as their favorite book characters while participating in various literacy-related activities. It was a school and community collaboration attended by representatives from the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library, as well as local author Lauren Coffey, who read her book, “The Boy Who Did Not Care, He Would Not Share.” Additionally, students participated in a book swap, bookmark making and William Floyd Elementary School Principal Dr. Keith Fasciana conducted “read-alouds.”
