For Black History Month, 11 William Floyd High School students have been selected to receive the Town of Brookhaven Black History Achievement Award from the Black History Commission, an organization designed to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of black Americans, both nationally and locally, while fostering an appreciation of black culture and heritage in the younger generation. The students will be recognized at the 25th Annual Black History Night Celebration this Friday at Brookhaven Town Hall.

Students were chosen based on their excellent academic achievements including maintaining a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

“On behalf of the Black History Commission, I would like to congratulate the students on their accomplishments and wish them continued success in their future endeavors,” said Leah M. Jefferson, Chairwoman, Town of Brookhaven Black History Commission.

Congratulations to the following students: Tatianna Benjamin, Ariana Duford, Ayshia Cornelia, Maiya Cotto, Kaitlin Hibbert, Mya Hutchins, Onyekachi Isiofia, Ervin Rhames, Devin Robinson, Korie Savage and Sarina Turpin.
